Premier League leaders Liverpool are desperate to offload the wages of winger Lazar Markovic on the Reds’ wage bill in the current January transfer window.

According to the publication from the Liverpool Echo, the Reds want to sell the 24-year-old this month.

Earlier reports claim that Chinese Super League sides are interested in the former Hull City player but nothing concrete has come out of those rumours.

Liverpool want to get his £50,000 weekly wages out of the way rather than wait until the summer for him to secure a free transfer move.

His Liverpool contract expires at the end of this season.

Lazar Markovic has been training with the Liverpool U23s at the Kirkby Academy since he rejected a summer move to Belgian club Anderlecht.

The Reds had agreed on a £2.9m transfer fee and a 50% sell-on clause with the Belgian giants only for the player to fail to agree to terms with Anderlecht.

Lazar Markovic has not featured for Liverpool this season amidst the Reds’ ascent to the top of the Premier League table after 22 games.

The Reds are four points clear of Premier League champions Manchester City with sixteen games to go between now and the end of the season.
