Premier League title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City have registered their interest in highly rated Benfica defender Ferro according to reports emanating from the media in Portugal.

Daily Record claim that the Reds will have to contend with Premier League champions Manchester City in their quest to sign Ferro.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable rise after breaking into the Benfica first team at the start of this year.

The Portuguese defender has featured nine times in all competitions for Benfica.

His form has led to the interest of the aforementioned Premier League clubs though it must be pointed out that he still has a lengthy contract with Benfica.

His contract does not expire until the end of the 2022/23 season.

Liverpool and Manchester City are in a keenly contested race for the Premier League title for this season and the two clubs might also do battle for Ferro.

Both clubs might need to strengthen their team defensively when the transfer window reopens in the summer and Ferro would certainly be a fantastic addition to their respective squads.

Manchester City have a one-point lead at the top of the table at the expense of Liverpool but the Reds can overturn that with a win over Fulham.
