According to reports, Liverpool will halt their reported chase of AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson, and instead turn attention on bringing in a deputy for Loris Karius.
Alisson not heading to Anfield
That’s according to The Times’ Paul Joyce, who suggested that the Brazilian goalie will possibly not be going to Anfield Stadium when the season ends.
It comes only hours after Sky Sports had claimed that the Reds were in early discussions with the Serie A outfit, with Alisson worth £62million.
However, it seems plans have now changed and naturally that will spark talks over whether or not the decision from Liverpool is right.
Defensive problems
Undoubtedly, they’ve got issues in defense, as although they’ve been netting freely with 61 goals in total in 27 English Premier League matches so far this campaign, they’ve conceded 31 goals in that period, which makes them the second-worst defensive team of the top seven clubs.
If they want to compete for major honours, they’ll have to improve at the back and the landing of Alisson would have been a key step in doing that considering the quality that he has displayed this term in Italy.
Nevertheless, Karius has returned to Liverpool’s starting line-up recently and has impressed. The Reds have kept a total of three clean sheets in their last four matches in all competitions, and so perhaps Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is finally seeing the shot-stopper that he felt he was signing from French side Mainz back in 2016.
