Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has made a big transfer claim about one of his players.

In a recent interview, the German tactician revealed that he wanted to sign Swiss international forward Xerdan Shaqiri when he was the Borussia Dortmund manager.

Xerdan Shaqiri moved to Bavarian giants Bayern Munich instead at the age of 19 but his path was blocked by the wing forward duo of flying Dutchman Arjen Robben and French winger Frank Ribery.

He then signed for Italian Serie A side Inter Milan before ending up at the Britannia Stadium with the Potters.

Xerdan Shaqiri suffered relegation with Stoke City at the end of last season before Liverpool activated his release clause after a good World Cup outing in Russia.

The 27-year-old was part of the Swiss team that reached the first knockout stage of last summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia before they were knocked out by fellow European nation Sweden.

The Reds activated the £13m release clause in his Stoke City last summer to secure his transfer for what’s fast becoming one of the bargain Premier League transfers in recent times.

He has been in very good form for Liverpool in their ascent to the top of the Premier League table.
