According to British media reports, Merseyside giants Liverpool have cooled their transfer interest in Stoke City attacker Xherdan Shaqiri, according to a report in England.
Liverpool set to drop move for attacker
Sky Sports, as cited by the Daily Mirror, is claiming that Reds manager boss Jurgen Klopp is set to forget about securing the signature of Shaqiri and seek other targets this summer window.
The same report claims that Liverpool are unlikely to activate the forward’s £12.5million buyout clause following Stoke’s relegation to the English Championship.
As per the same report, Klopp is set to turn his focus to other transfer targets despite formerly being linked with a move to land the 26-year-old.
Attacker set to leave relegated side
Shaqiri netted eight goals in 36 matches in the English Premier League last season but the Switzerland international attacker couldn’t prevent his club from going down.
The Potters signed him in a £12million transfer deal from Italian Serie A outfit Inter Milan back in 2015 and the club are believed to be keen on recouping that fee.
The Reds have been left seriously frustrated in their chase of Nabil Fekir after the player’s medical showed some issues which caused the switch to collapse.
The Champions League beaten finalists finished in the fourth position on the English Premier League log last season to seal their continued participation in the Continent’s top club competition next season.
