A goal-bound Egwim suffered a double fracture after a tackle by El-Kanemi goalkeeper Kazeem Yekini in the 89th minute, just eight minutes after coming on in the title decider at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, on Sunday.
Stunned players of both clubs burst into tears while Egwim reeled in pains, before he was rushed in an ambulance to the orthopaedic hospital. Thereafter, Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, announced that the player would be flown to Germany for further treatment.
The Team Manager, Ezeaku said the player would be flown abroad by the assistance of the governor and that they expect him to return in food shape. He asked the fans to remember him in their prayers while celebrating the win.
Egwin is expected to undergo multiple surgeries while in Germany.
