Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar has revealed how close he came to signing for five-time champions Liverpool almost three years ago.
The young Frenchman made this known in his latest interview monitored by popular English media outlet Daily Mirror.
According to him, Liverpool offered him the chance to move to England when he was a teenager but ended up declining the offer.
Houssem Aouar said that the Reds offered to sign him in July 2016 before he subsequently signed a professional contract with French Ligue 1 giants Lyon.
The 20-year-old has grown in leaps and bounds since he broke into the Lyon team in February 2017.
He has been a key player for Lyon in their push for more honours this season.
French U-21 international Aouar has impressed for Lyon in both the French Ligue 1 and the Champions League this term.
He has scored six goals in 18 appearances in the league in addition to providing three assists during the club’s Champions League group stage campaign.
His form has been attracting the interests of a lot of European heavyweights with clubs like Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United linked with a possible transfer for the young Lyon midfielder.
