Arsenal January transfer signing, Henrikh Mkhitaryan has claimed that he flopped at Man United.

The Armenian struggled heavily to make an impact at Premier League side Manchester United because he could not fit into Jose Mourinho’s preferred playing philosophy.

High-profile winter swap

The Armenian international brought his 18-month playing time at Old Trafford to an end in the New Year and joined the Gunners as part of the high-profile direct swap deal which saw Chile international Alexis Sanchez move the other direction.

The 29-year-old netted 13 goals in 63 matches for Manchester United and was influential in their UEFA Europa League success last season, yet, the attacker still failed to seal his place in Jose Mourinho’s starting lineup.

He was dropped from Man Utd’s matchday squad on ten occasions in the months leading up to the player’s exit, despite being fit throughout, with Jesse Lingard favoured in the No 10 role.

He joined Manchester United from German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in 2016 but had to wait for a sustained regular start as Mourinho suggested his latest signing needed some time to adapt to Premier League football.

The exciting midfielder gradually won Jose’s trust and started the present campaign as the Red Devils first-choice Number 10, but his game time was limited again after a number of subdued displays.

He has since played six matches for the Gunners since his switch to the Emirates Stadium in January, providing five assists.
