French national team manager Didier Deschamps has confirmed that Lyon defender Ferland Mendy will join Spanish giants Real Madrid this summer.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winning manager made this known during his latest press conference ahead of their Euro 2020 qualifier against hosts Andorra on Tuesday.

Didier Deschamps and his French players would be hoping to bounce back from the shocking 2-0 loss to hosts Turkey at the weekend in what was a Euro 2020 qualifier.

Ferland Mendy was a second half substitute during the game against Turkey on Saturday night.

The Lyon defender is expected to become a Real Madrid player in the coming days but his national team manager has all but confirmed the move ahead of schedule.

Recent reports had earlier revealed that the Los Merengues agreed on a €50m transfer for the young French defender.

He was a previous target for English clubs like West Brom and Chelsea.

The Blues might need a new left-back this summer and the aforementioned Mendy would have been a perfect fit for the job.

Spanish international Marcos Alonso is holding out for a move back to Spain with Atletico Madrid interested in him and Ferland Mendy would be a good replacement for the former Fiorentina and Bolton Wanderers defender.

For now, Marcos Alonso is a Chelsea player.
