Chelsea former outstanding midfielder Frank Lampard said he thought Brazilian Legend Ronaldinho was from a different planet when he first came up against the former Barcelona player.
The Chelsea legend announced his retirement this week after a successful and pleasant career that saw him face virtually every great player of the era. However out of all, it was Ronaldinho who stood out for Frank Lampard.
‘The [Barcelona] team after his were known as the better ones, when Messi really came through, but Ronaldinho could do impossible things with the ball,’ Lampard told Chelsea’s matchday programme.
‘I’d never seen a player like that. It was my early knockings in the Champions League and seeing him play was like, “Wow, this player is from a different planet to the rest of us.”‘
Frank came up against the Samba superstar in six meetings in the Champions League between 2005 and 2006. It was a unique stat though. In their six games and meetings, Chelsea have won twice, Barcelona have won twice too, and there were two draws. As if that isn’t enough, while Ronaldinho scored three times, Frank Lampard also scored thrice too in their clash.
Sure, history would not forget both Frank Lampard and Ronaldinho who were regarded as the best midfielders of their time.
