Derby manager Frank Lampard has expressed his delight over his victory against his former boss, Jose Mourinho in the Tuesday’s Carabao Cup.
Manchester United were knocked out after playing a 2-2 draw before heading for penalties.
It was a day for Derby after goalkeeper Scott Carson stopped Phil Jones from scoring from the spot in the encounter that ended 8-7.
Lampard praised his players for giving him one of the most memorable win of his managerial career.
The former Chelsea midfielder stated that winning against United at the Old Trafford was a delight but what makes it more special was the way his boys played against a more solid team.
He acknowledged the strength of the Mourinho side and thinks his players did a big one to have displayed such confidence and spirit in the game.
He revealed that he had practised penalties with his side before the game but still wasn’t sure because he did not get what he actually wanted.
United have now suffered two draws in their last two games following their 1-1 draw against Wolves at the weekend.
It would be recalled that before the game, Lampard had clearly stated that despite respecting the Portuguese manager, he was not competing against him but he was playing against Manchester United and its fans.
