Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has been placed on the transfer list at the club according to Spanish media portal Mundo Deportivo.

Diego Costa has been a controversial figure in his second spell at Atletico Madrid as usual just like his first spell as well as his time at West London giants Chelsea.

The Brazilian-born Spanish international striker will miss the rest of the season as a result of an eight-game ban handed out to him for his foul-mouthed rant towards the match officials during the recent 2-0 loss to hosts Barcelona.

Atletico Madrid’s quest for the Spanish La Liga title ended with the game against Barcelona.

Diego Costa was sent off in the first half of that Barcelona game and his team went on to lose the game 2-0 through goals from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.

He will miss the rest of the games for this season as well as the first Spanish La Liga match of next season with the eight-game ban.

The aforementioned publication from Mundo Deportivo claimed that the Atletico Madrid hierarchy has decided to transfer-list him though manager Diego Simeone is not happy with the new development from the club.

Atletico Madrid want to recoup all or the majority of the £55m transfer fee spent to sign him from Chelsea.
