Merseyside giant Liverpool have been handed a major transfer boost in their chase of Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam after the player’s agent admitted the defender is unlikely to sign a new contract in Italy.

Last campaign, the defender emerged as one of the most scouted defenders in Europe, with a lot of top clubs enquiring about his availability.

One such suitor were Liverpool, who have had continued issues establishing a permanent left-back.

Ghoulam remained with the Serie A club as the summer transfer window slams shut, but has only one League season remaining on his current contract.

Speaking to the world media this week, the defender’s representative Mario Rui – Mario Giuffredi – has provided some input on the transfer scenario.

Merseyside giant Liverpool will be hoping to sign more players to beef up their defensive options after starting the Premier League season conceding a lot of goals.

Jurgen Klopp’s team were hopeful of signing Netherland international defender Virgil van Dijk along with any other full-back cover, though a transfer for the Southampton defender did not happen and defender Alberto Moreno was brought back into the team following a full League season away from active football.
