Despite Antonio Conte’s summer signings of midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko from AS Monaco and England midfielder Danny Drinkwater from Leicester City, defending Premier League Champions Chelsea are still interested in strengthening their midfield option in the New Year and have already brought in England star Ross Barkley from Merseyside club Everton for £15million, but the Blues spending spree won’t stop there.
As reported by the Mirror, Chelsea are among a three Premier League sides including the Manchester clubs that are hoping to sign Lorenzo Pellegrini from Serie A side Roma this winter transfer window.
Lorenzo Pellegrini came through the ranks at Roma but was offloaded to Sassuolo back in July 2015 for only £1.1million so he can get regular playing time, but AS Roma had every plan of potentially re-signing him they included a £9million clause to do just that, which they eventually activated in July 2017 for only £9m.
Capped just once by the Azzurri of Italy, Pellegrini, 21, has netted two goals and provided three assists in 21 matches so far this campaign and is widely seen as one of the best starlets in the Italian Serie A today.
With his current deal having a relatively little buyout clause of only £21million, the likes of Manchester United, Man City and Chelsea are hoping to sign him to strengthen their team for the second stanza of the campaign.
