Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been offered the managerial role at Scottish Premiership champions Celtic according to club legend Chris Sutton.

The former Chelsea and Celtic striker revealed that his former club has offered Mourinho the chance to return to the dugout.

He was speaking while doing his punditry job on BT Sports.

When asked about his preferred choice for the vacant managerial job at Celtic, Chris Sutton opted for Juventus manager Maximiliano Allegri.

Italian tactician Allegri will leave Italian champions Juventus this summer paving the way for European clubs like Celtic to swoop in on him.

Celtic have been without a permanent manager since Brendan Rodgers walked out on the club to take the Leicester City job in March.

Neil Lennon was handed a temporary role as the Celtic manager until the end of the season.

The Scottish champions are expected to appoint a new manager on a long-term deal this summer and it could be former Manchester United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese tactician has not been in the dugout since he was sacked by Manchester United last year.

Mourinho was sacked by the Red Devils in December after a disastrous start to the season especially in the league.
