Former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri has been appointed AS Roma manager until the end of the current season.
The appointment was confirmed by the Italian Serie A giants on Friday shortly after the dismissal of Eusebio Di Francesco.
Di Francesco paid dearly with his job after AS Roma were dumped out of the Champions League by FC Porto on Wednesday night.
Roma lost the second leg meeting of their Champions League last 16 tie with Portuguese champions FC Porto 3-1 in extra time following a late penalty from Alex Telles after 117 minutes.
The Italians had won the first leg 2-1 at home last month before playing 1-2 after 90 minutes of the second leg thereby paving the way for extra time.
Claudio Ranieri was the Chelsea manager until 2004 when he paved the way for a vibrant Jose Mourinho to take the Blues managerial job.
He was recently sacked at Fulham where won just three out of the 17 games managed at the Craven Cottage.
Claudio Ranieri was responsible for one of the greatest sporting moments in recent history when he led unfancied Leicester City to the Premier League title during the 2015/16 season.
The Foxes won the league title under his guidance with players like Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante crucial to the title win.
