Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been subjected to fierce attacks from Chelsea fans after his mistake against Russia in their Euro 2020 qualifier on Thursday night.

His mistake was one of the highlights of the game as Belgium saw off Russia via a 3-1 win.

Chelsea fans have turned on Courtois after his controversial exit from the club last summer.

With one year left on his then Chelsea contract, Thibaut Courtois forced his exit from the club as he sealed a £35m deal to Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid at the start of the season.

Chelsea moved swiftly to sign a replacement by completing a world record deal for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Blues paid £71m to secure the transfer of Kepa from Spanish La Liga club Athletic Bilbao.

Thibaut Courtois was the first choice goalkeeper at Real Madrid until last weekend when he was dropped by the club’s new manager Zinedine Zidane.

His woes were compounded by his mistake in the colours of Belgium on Thursday night.

Courtois gifted Russia their 16th-minute equaliser after Youri Tielemans had given the hosts the lead two minutes earlier.

Eden Hazard spared the blushes of his former Chelsea teammate with two goals either side of the halftime interval to give Belgium a 3-1 win over Russia.
