Chelsea have formally confirmed the signing of France international Olivier Giroud from Arsenal, with reports claiming that the forward has joined in a deal worth about £18million.
Proven striker
The 31-year-old netted 105 goals in 253 matches for Arsenal in five-and-a-half years with the North London club, but he has now switched his allegiance to west London and will line up with Antonio Conte’s team.
As reported by The Sun, the Blues have spent £18million to lure him away from the Emirates Stadium, and it surely addresses a key issue in the team with a lack of attacking reinforcement hurting them this January.
Dry spell
Spain international striker Alvaro Morata has gone six games without a single goal in all competitions, and without a good competition or backup, the need for strengthening was crystal clear.
The former Arsenal striker will surely now provide that, although he’ll be keen to force his way into the starting line up having only started two English Premier League matches this campaign for the Gunners.
Giroud brings different style
The FIFA award winner does bring a different style in the attack, as with his physical structure, aerial ability to link up play, he’ll give Antonio Conte an alternative option if needed.
According to the Blues official website, the striker will wear the Number 18 Jersey at the club, while he has signed an 18-month deal with the club.
