Champions League: Valverde Wary Of Roma Collapse Ahead Of Liverpool Clash

Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde is adamant that the Champions League last four tie with Premier League title chasers Liverpool is far from over ahead of the second leg billed for Anfield on Tuesday night.

The former Athletic Bilbao boss warned his players about the potential threat posed by Liverpool during his pre-match press conference on Monday.

Valverde reminded his players about the Champions League debacle against Italian giants AS Roma in the last campaign and that the first leg lead against the Italians was also a three-goal advantage just like what’s obtainable with Liverpool.

AS Roma and Barcelona met in the quarterfinals of last season’s Champions League and the Spanish champions established a 4-1 lead in their first leg meeting only to crash out of the competition in surprising fashion after losing 3-0 to their Italian opponents in the second leg played at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

AS Roma advanced to the next stage via the away goals rule.

Ernesto Valverde would be hoping that lightning does not strike twice when his team defends another three-goal lead.

Liverpool have it all to do against Ernesto Valverde and Barcelona who are definitely in the driving seat before the second leg kicks off at Anfield on Tuesday night.
