Liverpool got four good Premier League wins on the trot to end 2016 on a high. But when the New Year arrived, the Reds have failed to even win a single league game and have unfortunately dropped points against some little relegation-threatened teams like Sunderland and Swansea.

Lately, things have been negative at Anfield and new boss Jurgen Klopp has demanded a positive reaction from his players.

However, Liverpool’s fans will be delighted about a new report by The Telegraph that revealed the club have moved this week and opened talks to seal a new deal with star playmaker Philippe Coutinho.

24-year-old Coutinho who currently goes home with £75,000 each week has been fantastic for the Merseysiders this season and so rightly deserves a fresh contract.

This season so far in 18 appearances for Liverpool, the Samba star has directly contributed in 13 goals – scoring six goals and providing 7 assists.

However the report by the Telegraph didn’t state any terms of the contract that Liverpool want to agree with Coutinho. But the Daily Star last month confirmed that the Reds are looking to make him the highest paid player at the club by agreeing a deal worth £150,000-a-week, £7.8million-a-year (I.e $9.8million-a-year).

Klopp need to strengthen his squad by utilizing this winter transfer window before it closes next week.
