Arsene Wenger told to make 26-year-old out of contract star club captain

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has urged manager Arsene Wenger to consider making England international midfielder Jack Wilshere the new club captain.

Wilshere cement starting place

The Arsenal midfielder has managed to push through his way back into the reckoning at the North London side.

Not just has he sealed himself as a first-team regular member of the squad, the 26-year-old midfield maestro is becoming the main man at The Emirates Stadium.

The Englishman spent last season on loan at AFC Bournemouth in order to seal a return to full fitness after a prolonged injury spell.

He started six matches during the festive period to prove his improving match fitness level.

Out of Contract

The England star has little below six months remaining on his current Arsenal deal to raise questions about his Gunners future.

Jack Wilshere will be available to leave for free in the summer unless the Gunners hand him a fresh contract.

Make Wishere Captain

Ex-Arsenal defender Keown feels the midfielder should be the Arsenal captain following his return to impressive form.

The Gunners are in the sixth position in the English Premier League log in pursuit of a return to the UEFA Champions League after a season absence.

The North Londoners signed Man Utd midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a double swap deal that saw Chile forward Alexis Sanchez head to Old Trafford.
