Like many other sides, North London giant Arsenal sent their scouts out during the FIFA international break to keep a close watch on some of their targets and this week, Gunners scouts were present on the stands for Austria’s 2-1 victory over South American side Uruguay.
With the winter transfer window set to open in January, the Gunners are doing their assignment on possible signings, but the big question is, who were the Arsenal scouts looking at during the match?
The Arsene Wenger led team, in recent times have been strongly linked with moves for three of Uruguay’s upcoming prospects, namely Rodrigo Bentancur, Federico Valverde, and Jose Maria Gimenez.
Federico Valverde is a 19-year-old highly rated attacking midfielder who signed for Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid last summer for about €5million from Uruguayan club Penarol. The wonderkid has caught the eye of many suitors, on loan with Deportivo La Coruna this campaign and played his first international game back in September.
Bentancur, 20, only joined Italian Serie A giant Juventus this past summer, arriving in a €10.5m move from Brazilian side Boca Juniors. He played his first international match last month after making a good start in Turin.
Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez has been a regular starter for the side and the National team over the last 18 months or thereabout and will be a free agent at the end of the current season when his contract runs out.
