Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has disclosed that the current contract renewal impasse involving his star duo namely Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil is not all about money as he gave update on the situation at hand.
The 67-year old Frenchman was speaking during a pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) away clash at Swiss champions FC Basel in what would be their last group game as far as Group A is concerned with a victory needed to have any chance of finishing in top spot ahead of leaders Paris Saint Germain (PSG).
When asked on the contract renewal update, Wenger said: “I would like to say the luxury in the modern game should be it is not only about the money. The players make good money anyway.”
“The money is good everywhere for everybody.
“You negotiate more with the agents than the player so we are in negotiations, of course it is normal.” he concluded.
Former Barcelona star Alexis Sanchex and ex-Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil both have 18 months left on their current contract however a contract impasse has not affected them as they have been in great form this season. Sanchez is Arsenal’s topscorer with 13 goals in all competitions while German Mesut Ozil has scored eight goals in all competitions, which is just one goal off his total tally from last season (9).
