According to reports, Premier League champions Chelsea are set to break their transfer record twice in one window as they seek deals for the duo of Alex Sandro and Virgil van Dijk.
It is understood that the west London club are ready to make Sandro the world’s most expensive defender this week as they close in on a £61million move for the Brazilian star.
David Luiz currently remains the most expensive defender after his £50M move to Paris Saint-Germain about three years ago, but Sandro’s offer is set to smash that.
The fullback is expected to arrive at the same time as Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko in a £37m deal as Antonio Conte kick-starts his cash splashing this summer.
Additionally, he will also pursue a deal for Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk.
According to reports, Chelsea intends opening talks with Southampton by presenting an opening £60m bid but it is set to rise as the club hold out for a £70m offer. This will see the west London club break the transfer record for a defender twice.
Not to forget, they have been strongly linked with Belgium international Romelu Lukaku and the Everton striker remains a big target. He is expected to make a switch to Stamford Bridge in a deal that is expected to come to roughly £75m.
