Jose Mourinho Set To Dump These Two Defenders, Pundit Claims

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp insists that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will try to replace his two centre-half Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones with someone more reliable at the back in this transfer window.

Ivorian Eric Bailly is injured while Mourinho decides benching Daley Blind occasionally, but prefers using the duo of Rojo and Jones at the heart of the defence. Both of them also featured in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over West Brom, where they managed keeping a clean sheet.

However, Redknapp seem to believe that the Portuguese coach will bring in another good centre-half to pair with Bailly for United, as he feels that Manchester United will sure do better without this current pair and Mourinho will be on the look out to replace these two.

Writing for Daily Mail, the ex-player said:

“Ibrahimovic’s return to form has coincided with the emergence of Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones as United’s centre-back pairing.

“I wouldn’t have put Rojo and Jones together and I think Jose Mourinho will look to bring in another centre-back.”

Redknapp also stated why he feels Mourinho will do good to try someone else although they have performed reasonably well of late.

“They are both prone to the odd mistake – in Rojo’s case he has been reckless with a couple of two-footed challenges recently – but they have been defending brilliantly and helping United win hard games.

“You only need to look at Chelsea to see that when your defence is solid, your forwards are under less pressure and are less likely to panic in front of goal.”

We all know the two defenders are performing above average for the red devils in recent times. Even if we should say that Rojo’s form was critical, coach Mourinho’s faith in him is finally rendering good result for United. And while Jones had fitness issues which took a long time for Mourinho to convince himself to start him in the heart of the defence, Mourinho will be happy to see his decision getting rightly justified if the team continue winning more matches.
