Liverpool will have to contend with Premier League title rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign midfielder Nicolo Barella.
Barella plays his club football with Italian Serie A side Cagliari at the moment and he has emerged as a key player for the club in the last two seasons.
His impressive showings for Cagliari has attracted interests from home and abroad.
Barella has repeatedly been linked with a move to Liverpool despite the fact that the Reds are well equipped in that department.
Liverpool strengthened their midfield options in the summer following the signing of Fabinho and Naby Keita.
Brazilian international midfielder Fabinho joined the club from French Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco, while Guinean star signed for the Reds from German Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig.
The two signings have make up for the exit of German international Emre Can who joined Juventus in the summer on a free transfer from Liverpool.
The Reds also have midfield options like Adam Lallana, James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Giorginio Wijnaldum.
They would have to fend off the interest of Tottenham Hotspur who would like to sign the Italian international as a replacement for the injured Ousmane Dembele.
Belgian international Dembele is currently out until the New Year with an ankle problem.
