Why United are no longer favourites in 30-year-old pursuit
The future of Croatia international star Ivan Rakitic is still unclear at the Spanish La Liga outfit as he frequently linked away from the club.
It was reported in the last winter transfer window that the Barcelona star will be heading to the English Premier League to join United but that did not happen as speculated.
The Red Devils were reported to be keen on his signature and ready to wait until the summer window to land him to the Old Trafford after missing out in the winter window.
Suggestions are that the arrival of Frenkie de Jong has further frustrated the stay of Ivan Rakitic at the Camp Nou and he could n longer be amongst the favourites owing to his age.
With Ivan Rakitic seeming to be available in the summer window, United will make efforts to land him but it is understood that they are no more favourites as they are not alone in the chase.
It is claimed that Italian Serie A outfit Inter Milan have already made an offer to land Ivan Rakitic at the San Siro ahead of the coming season.
However, it is not sure what the stand of the Barcelona boss is but it is likely he would not be allowed to leave anytime soon.
