Paul Merson feels striker Alvaro Morata should be given another year to prove himself at Stamford Bridge.
Club record transfer
Chelsea side signed the Spain international striker in a club transfer record £60million deal from Real Madrid after the forward impressed at the La Liga giants and Serie A Champions Juventus.
The striker hit the ground running immediately, scoring nine times in his opening matches to quash any claim that he would not be able to adjust to the English league.
Heavy criticism
However, Morata’s goal rush soon dried up to prompt some football analysts to criticise the Blues’ decision to cash in on Spain international striker Diego Costa considering his important role in their Premier League title triumph in the 2015 and 2017 season.
The 24-year-old seems to have rediscovered his early-season form recently and the high profile signing has scored 11 times in 29 matches in his first season in England under Italian tactician Antonio Conte.
Chelsea could offload Morata
Some articles have claimed that the Blues could sell Alvaro Morata at the end of the current campaign amid interest from Juventus, his former employers.
While Paul Merson hasn’t been totally convinced with some of Conte’s signings this term, the former Arsenal player wants the Spaniard to get another year to prove himself at the West London club.
