Though Fulham lost to Chelsea in Sunday’s Premier League clash, there is one player who would be very glad about his performance against the Blues.
After a very difficult start to life at the Craven Cottage stadium, Arsenal loanee Calum Chambers is far becoming the player he was during his early days at the Emirates Stadium under Arsene Wenger.
The England international put up a disgraceful performance for the League’s newbies against Cardiff City in the second matches of the season and he was rightfully substituted by Slavisa Jokanovic in the second half of the game.
As a result of his woeful display during their heavy defeat to the Eagles, the former Southampton man was left out of the starting eleven for many months.
As it looks like the defensive midfielder isn’t going to see any game time under Jokanovic for the rest of the season, Chambers was given another chance to redeem himself and his career.
The versatile star took his chances against Liverpool as he was all over the pitch throughout the game.
Was his breathtaking display against the Reds a fluke, that must be the question that was asked by the Cottagers’ boss, who decided to give him another trial, this time against his former club Southampton.
Just as he wowed Jokanovic during the Reds encounter, Chambers did the same against the Saints, thereby, giving a perfect answer to his manager’s doubts and questions.
After being convinced about his recent form, new manager Claudio Ranieri started the Englishman at the central defensive midfield position against the Blues on Sunday and he didn’t disappoint.
He was lively throughout the game as he forced Kepa Arrizabalaga into making a world-class save.
He should have given Ranieri’s men the lead in the second period of the game but his well-curled shot was carried out for a corner by the former Athletico Bilbao’s goalie.
Unfortunately, it ended 2-0 in favour of the Blues, however, Chambers recent blistering and eye-catching form must be noticed by Unai Emery.
Is Arsenal’s Rob Holding in danger?
It was said that Holding’s breakthrough from the Gunners academy played a huge role in Chambers misfortune at the North London club.
With his(Chambers) recent resurgence, the young defender must know that his place in Emery’s team is in danger. He must ensure consistent display to shut out the door on Chambers.
Anything short of that could lead to being pushed down the pecking order because chambers might see himself at Emirates Stadium sooner rather than later.
