Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has poured cold water on transfer reports about a loan move for Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen.
Several media reports had claimed that the Danish international centre back will join the Spanish La Liga champions on loan when the transfer window reopens next month.
Valverde spoke about transfers during his pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s league game against Levante.
According to him, Barcelona will not sign a defensive player in January.
He also revealed that he’s happy with the four centre backs that he has at his disposal despite the fact that one of them is currently out injured.
The four centre backs are Gerard Pique,Christian Lenglet, Thomas Vermaelen and Samuel Umtiti.
World Cup winner Umtiti is battling with a knee injury.
Ernesto Valverde pointed out that three of his four centre backs are left-footed and that he’s alright with them.
The new development would be a big blow to the aforementioned Christensen.
The Danish centre back is keen to leave Chelsea in search of more first team opportunities.
He has been relegated to a bit-part player at the club since manager Maurizio Sarri took over.
Andreas Christensen has made 11 appearances for the Blues in all competitions this season.
