North London giants Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly taken the lead in the race to sign wantaway Paris Saint Germain (PSG) midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

According to Spanish media outlet Sport, Spurs are favourites to sign the young French international player after Mauricio Pochettino outlined his plans for him.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Pochettino was said to have contacted him personally in the bid to give his side the edge in the keenly contested race to sign the talented player with Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona and Premier League table toppers Liverpool also in the running.

Adrien Rabiot was promised a key role in the Tottenham Hotspur team.

Earlier reports had claimed that Barcelona had agreed on a free transfer move for him but those transfer rumours are wide off the mark.

The La Liga giants’ stance on the player has softened in recent times following the signing of Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Frenkie De Jong.

Dutch international De Jong has signed for the Blaugrana in a deal worth €75m including add-ons and he’s expected to join his new club in July.

Adrien Rabiot has six months left on his PSG contract and he has been frozen out of the team for his failure to sign a new contract.
