Thibaut Courtois

According to reports, Chelsea No. 1 goalie Thibaut Courtois is asking for a new contract that will see him go home with £200,000 each week to be at the same level with team-mate Eden Hazard and Manchester United’s ‘David de Gea.

Courtois has successfully established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe at the moment following his impressive performances at Stamford Bridge, and he is now looking for a big pay rise.

The Belgium international currently earns £90,000 per week at Chelsea with his current deal meant to expire in 2019. That means the Chelsea board may want to get the dispute resolved soon.

The 25-year-old has been linked with Real Madrid in recent times, with the Champions League winners also looking for the likes of De Gea as they plan to sign a proven goalie this summer.

It is understood that the Belgian’s demands have seen the Stamford Bridge club put off contract talks for the time being, though they hope to reach an agreement with him before the start of the new season.

The shot-stopper has won two Premier League titles and the League Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are believed to be closing in on a deal to sign former Manchester City goalie Willy Caballero as a backup.
