Star player loan move confirmed by Liverpool

Published

on

Loris Karius

Liverpool football club have confirmed the departure of 25-year-old German goalkeeper Loris Karius to Turkish giants Besiktas on a two and a half year loan deal.

The much-expected move comes after the Reds coughed out a massive £65 million for the services of former Roma shot stopper Alisson Becker. The fee which is a world record for a goalkeeper practically ensured that Karius’s time in between the sticks for the Merseyside club had practically come to an end.

25-year-old Karius who was in goal for Liverpool in last season’s final of the UEFA Champions League against Spanish giants Real Madrid where they lost 3-1. He was responsible for the first and third goals of Real Madrid on a night he would never ever forget. Although it was later claimed that the goalkeeper had suffered a concussion after an earlier collision during the match which might have resulted in his disillusionment during the game, his career was all but over in Anfield after that woeful performance.

The loan deal with the Turkish Super-Lig team will run through the remainder of 2018/19 and the whole of 2019/20 league season and will perhaps help the German in rebuilding his career.

A statement on the official Liverpool football club website wished the former Mainz goalkeeper the best of luck during his loan spell.

Karius made a total number of 49 appearances for the current Premier League leaders since his arrival from Mainz in 2016.

How Mourinho ‘deceived’ fans on Pogba’s captain band stripping

Published

jose mourinho

Few weeks ago, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho stripped of captain band from French midfielder Paul Pogba owing to the supposed rift between them.

The United boss had before the entire team squad told the World Cup winner who has captained the side on two occasions that he will never have an opportunity to do that again.

Pogba has been accused of insubordination and also disrespecting the club and the manager.

One of the sins committed by the former Juventus player is publicly questioning the tactics employed by the manager by stating that the team ought to only attack when at home. This is after United failed to defeat Wolves on September.

However, it is believed that Mourinho’s decision on the player wearing the armband is “unwittingly” deceiving the club fans knowing that the player has been a natural leader on the field of play and that has still not stopped going by the roles handed to him by the manager.

It would be recalled that a revelation after United’s magical comeback against Newcastle last weekend disclosed that the 3-2 victory would have arguably been impossible if the tactical advice given to the former Chelsea boss by Pogba was not given.

It was reported that Pogba had told Mourinho what to do and the tactical changes that won the game from 2-0 in the first half to a 3-2 victory at full time.

UEFA Nations League: Southgate makes case for clubs, players

Published

Southgate

The UEFA Nations League has been ongoing since the commencement of the international break and it has not been an easy one for players who have got just a little time to rest.

England national team coach Gareth Southgate is one of those who will hit out on the Premier League for rushing to begin the league without giving necessary conditions to players who were at the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Southgate who spoke ahead of his side’s Nations League game against Spain noted that clubs are placed in an impossible situation where they have to field players who have not rested to achieve results.

According to the England boss it was wrong for the Premier League to have started on August 10; just 27 days after his side were eliminated by Belgium in the World Cup.

Citing Tottenham as an example, Southgate said many of their players reached the semi-finals of the World Cup and had no rest until the league started, pointing it as the reason why they have failed to give their best performance.

The situation becomes more difficult for players as they have to return back to their various countries for the UEFA competition without enough rest for them to have.

Southgate is the second after Liverpool manager to have made such a claim, with the German manager arguing that the Nations League should be scrapped to allow players to refresh before they return back to their various clubs.

Luke Shaw

Manchester United are reportedly set to reward Luke Shaw with a £150,000 a-week contract that will have him remain at the Old Trafford much longer.

It was earlier anticipated that the England international was on his way out of the club but he has since found a reason to remain having had a good pre-season outing to force him back into manager Jose Mourinho’s team.

Shaw, whose current contract expires by next summer will now be rewarded with a new contract at the club as he is now a major part of the United team so far in this season.

The Express reports that the decision to hand him a new and improved offer was the decision of the Portuguese manager who is pleased with Shaw’s improvement and commitment to the club.

Shaw has been reported to be on Tottenham’s radar but that could be the end of the speculations once an agreement is reached and a deal is signed.

It has been suggested that the former Southampton player remains in the future plans of the club knowing that he has age as an advantage for him.

The Old Trafford side are looking forward to bouncing back after the international break as they battle Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge.
