According to reports, European Champions Real Madrid could be ready to rival top clubs like FC Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United for the transfer of Ousmane Dembele as they consider an alternative to their top transfer target Kylian Mbappe.

Real have been linked with Mbappe for much of this summer window, but may now try their luck with a transfer for his fellow France international who could considerably come cheaper.

Reports last week indicated a transfer for the Monaco star to make the switch to Madrid for about £161million was gathering momentum, though it has since been claimed that AS Monaco have increased their valuation.

As per Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid are also concerned about the teenager’s wage demands, which would place him behind only Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo in Real Madrid’s squad, and likely spark requests for considerable pay rises from other players.

This seems to have made them turn their attentions towards Frenchman Dembele, who is one of Europe’s most highly rated youngsters after a superb first season at Borussia Dortmund last season.

Dembele, 20, is valued at around £80million, so would cost less than half what the French club are asking for 18-year-old Mbappe, though Borussia Dortmund have openly insisted the starlet is not for sale this summer transfer window.
