Manchester City are in fierce battle with Liverpool for the Premier League title this season but the Citizens are surprisingly set to help Jurgen Klopp bolster his team in the upcoming transfer window.

What’s the story

Manchester City have reportedly shown their desire to capture two Lyon midfielders Houssem Aouar and Tanguy N’Dombele in January window, that’s according to Manchester Evening News last month.

City’s manager Pep Guardiola was impressed with the performance both players put up against his team in the Champions League competition and he’s more than willing to add them to his midfield setup in January.

In the same vein, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is being credited with an interest in N’Dombele’s signature as part of his midfield’s reinforcement ahead of the second period of the season.

However, the latest rumor emerging from the Etihad Stadium claims that the former Barcelona boss is no longer chasing after N’Dombele as he has shifted his total focus to Aouar.

This will come as good news to Klopp because Guardiola’s decision to cool his interest in the Frenchman has just improved the German chances of luring the youngster to Anfield stadium.

Though N’Dombele is not desperately needed by the Reds, his addition to the team will bolster their qualities at the middle of the pitch.

He will also render Klopp the opportunity to rest some of his key players during the busy festive period.

Who is N’Dombele?

The Congolese-born player is a 21-year-old midfielder who made his debut as a professional footballer with French side Amiens in 2016.

The youngster decided to play for France national team despite interest from his country of birth.

He’s featured in four matches for the Les Blues after making his senior debut earlier in the year.

His current contract with Lyon will expire in 2020 but he could be released by the Ligue 1 side in January due to numerous offers trooping in for his services.

Other Interested Clubs

Though Manchester City have pulled out of the race for the youngster’s signature, Liverpool must increase the pace with which they negotiate with the Ligue 1 team. This is because Everton are very keen on his services.

The blue part of Merseyside are ready to rival their neighbors for the player as Marco Silva is reportedly unhappy with his player’s hot and cold performances during the first period of the season.

Having signed Richarlison and Sigurðsson from Watford and Swansea City respectively in the summer transfer window, the former Watford manager is now hoping to bolster his midfield’s quality by injecting some young and pacy midfielders into the team in January.
