Chelsea defender David Luiz gave away a penalty during their Champions League group stage game against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night, and his mistake almost cost his side all three points.
And former Man United player Roy Keane does not seems to be all excited with the Brazilian’s performance in the game and has branded Luiz as ‘lazy’.
The referee spotted Luiz tugging down an Atletico Madrid player from a corner awarded to the home team, and the official quickly pointed towards the penalty spot in the first half of the encounter.
Frenchman Antoine Griezmann stepped up to convert the kick into a goal before Chelsea summer signing Alvaro Morata levelled the game with his head. Michy Batshauyi put the premier league champions ahead and ensured they earned all three points from the meeting.
And despite that the blues were able to beat a strong side like Atletico at home, former Man United man Keane is not overlooking the part of Luiz in his side’s performance, and he said the 30-year-old actually let his team-mates down.
Speaking to ITV, Roy said what Luiz did during the game is a form of cheating, and that the defender himself knows that he was lazy in the game.
“We see a lot of what is going on, [and] I am glad he got punished for it.” Keane said.
