Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney says he has nothing to prove to Jose Mourinho or anyone else following their 3-1 victory on the road at Bournemouth.
The England international scored United’s second goal against the Cherries after a Anthony Martial mis-cue fell through to him inside the box.
After the match, Rooney made it clear to the media that he has nothing to prove this season, saying he will always “score goals” if he continues to be played in an advanced role under Mourinho.
“I’ve nothing to prove to anyone,” Rooney told Sky Sports .
“I’ve played this game a long time, I believe in my own ability, I’m confident and I think I’m good enough to play, and if I play where I played today then I’ll score goals.”
Zlatan Ibrahimovic rounded off the scoring for the Red Devils with their third and the 34-year-old is pleased his new side started with a victory.
The team did good. It was a difficult game. The first half we weren’t 100 per cent but second half became more easier, more space, and we could play more our game,” the Swede said.
“We scored the second and the third one, so it was a good game and it was important to start good.”
