Premier League title chasers Liverpool have set a new points tally following their slim victory over Newcastle United earlier this weekend.
The Reds made a big step towards ending their long wait for the title with a win over the Magpies but they have to rely on others to do the job.
Liverpool need title rivals Manchester City to drop points either against Leicester City on Monday night or on the final day of this season’s Premier League campaign against Brighton and Hove Albion to end their 29-year wait for a league title.
The Reds are yet to win a league title since the 1989/90 season and they are yet to win the Premier League since its inception at the start of the 1992/93 season.
Liverpool could still end the season without the much-coveted league title despite recording the most points in their history.
The 3-2 win over Newcastle United took the Reds’ point tally to 94 points this season thus extending their club record which stood at 91 points before the start of the Magpies game.
Liverpool are the third team with the most Premier League points in the history of the competition behind title rivals Manchester City (100 points) and West London giants Chelsea (95 points).
