Philippe Coutinho

Unsettled Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho is set to hold crunch talks with club manager Ernesto Valverde over his lack of playing time at the club.

According to the publication from Spanish media outlet SPORT, the former Liverpool playmaker will meet with the Barcelona manager to discuss his long-term future at the club.

Brazilian international Coutinho has been linked with a return to the Premier League with clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea following his recent struggles at the Nou Camp.

The 26-year-old is the most expensive signing in the history of the club following his transfer from Premier League leaders Liverpool last year.

Barcelona were said to have paid a whopping sum of £142m to secure his transfer from Liverpool in January 2018.

Only the Paris Saint Germain (PSG) duo of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are more expensive than Philippe Coutinho in world football history.

Coutinho has not been able to live up to fans’ expectations at the club since his multi-million pounds move from the Reds last year.

He has scored just four league goals in addition to providing two assists for Barcelona in the league this season.

Coutinho started the season in the Barcelona XI but he has lost his place in the starting lineup in recent weeks.
