Liverpool midfielder Pedro Chirivella has returned back to Spain in an attempt to revive his ailing career.
The 21-year-old has joined Spanish Segunda division club Extremadura until the end of the season.
Chirivella secured a return back to his homeland shortly before the latest January transfer window was shut on Thursday night.
Several English Championship sides were interested in the Spanish midfielder before he signed for Extremadura.
Nottingham Forest and Welsh side Swansea City were keen on a loan switch for the young Reds star.
A large portion of his playing time at Liverpool this season has been for the U23s.
Pedro Chirivella signed for Liverpool while Brendan Rodgers was still the Reds manager.
The Spaniard joined the Merseyside giants from Spanish La Liga club Valencia in a deal believed to be around £2m in 2013.
His last appearance for the Liverpool first team in May 2016.
Pedro Chirivella joins other Liverpool players like Matty Virtue, Lazar Markovic and Liam Millar in leaving the club on deadline day.
Without him in the Reds first team, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has masterminded a sustained Premier League title challenge at the expense of other rivals like Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
The Reds have a five-point advantage of second-placed Manchester City in the title race.
