World Cup Winner To Extend Chelsea Deal

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud will extend his deal at the club according to Blues boss Maurizio Sarri.

The Italian tactician spoke about the French World Cup winner in his pre-match thoughts ahead of the London Derby meeting with West Ham United in the Premier League.

Chelsea host West Ham United at Stamford Bridge on Monday night hoping to get the win that would boost their top-four hopes.

Maurizio Sarri told reporters that Giroud is an important player for Chelsea and that the former Arsenal player will stay beyond this season despite the intense transfer rumours linking him back to his native France.

His current Chelsea contract expires this summer though the Blues can exercise the extra year option to take the player’s contract till the end of next season.

Giroud became a Chelsea player at the start of last year when he joined the Blues from London rivals Arsenal in a deal reported to be around £18m.

The Frenchman signed an 18-month contract until this summer with the option of an additional year.

Olivier Giroud has proven his worth this season with six goals in his last five starts for Chelsea in all competitions including the strike against Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday night.

He scored the opening goal on his first league start of 2019 as Chelsea beat Brighton 3-0 to leapfrog Manchester United into fifth spot on the Premier League table.
