Olivier Giroud

Chelsea Striker Olivier Giroud was amongst the goals as world champions France got their Euro 2020 campaign to a winning start.

Giroud and France started their campaign in Group B of the Euro 2020 qualifiers with a thumping 4-1 win over hosts Moldova.

Two goals within three first half minutes from Antoine Griezmann and Raphael Varane gave the visitors a 2-0 lead before former Arsenal striker Giroud added a third goal for the French team in the 36th minute.

It was a significant goal for Olivier Giroud who has now scored 34 goals in 88 appearances to move into joint third on the all-time French national team goalscorers’ chart alongside David Trezeguet.

Only Mitchel Platini (41) and Thierry Henry (51) have scored more for France than Giroud.

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) forward Kylian Mbappe added a fourth goal for Les Blues with three minutes left on the clock before Moldova got their consolation goal through Vladimir Ambros two minutes later.

In the other Group H games, AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu scored one of the goals as Turkey beat Albania 2-0 away from home while the same scoreline was recorded with Iceland securing a 2-0 win over hosts Andorra.

France are the early pacesetters in Group H as expected following their convincing win over the Moldovans.
