Mourinho’s “soap opera” a big distraction to United’s Champions League pursuit says Liverpool legend

Former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer has described as “soap opera”, the controversies surrounding the Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, which according to him might pose a big distraction to the club’s pursuit of a Champions League football next season.

McAteer said should all of these controversies continue, the Red Devils will not actualize their dreams of a top-four finish later at the end of the season.

United are currently sitting sixth on the log table having recorded two defeats and two wins in their four league games.

McAteer, who hasn’t been impressed with the drama at United stated that it has revolved around the former Chelsea manager and French midfielder, Paul Pogba.

He noted that it has been about a rift with Pogba or other players and bust-up with the club’s authorities over failed transfer request, adding that all of these could be avoided.

The former Liverpool man stated that should all of these persists, the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham will be ready to occupy the top four.

He, however, predicted that the English League will be won by Liverpool this season as Pep Guardiola’s City could miss out this season over the intense competition available.
