Manchester City on the verge of sealing deal of United long-term target

Manchester City are reportedly on the verge of sealing a deal for United target Frenkie de Jong who currently plays for Ajax as a versatile midfielder.

Frenkie de Jong has been a subject of speculation over the past few weeks as he is being wanted by a number of top European clubs including Barcelona and Tottenham, in addition to Manchester United who are a long-term suitors.

Reports reveal that the Red Devils stood a better chance of having the services of Frenkie de Jong before now but they are believed to have lost out because of the insistence and seriousness of their City rivals.

The 21-year-old is interesting Spanish manager Pep Guardiola and has been made a top target so as to help make their midfield more solid with the season going into a more critical stage.

The Mirror, therefore, reports that United have lost out of the race with the Dutchman believed to be heading to joining the Citizens after they missed out on Brazil star Fred.

Frenkie de Jong’s representative who was asked to react to the speculation, refused to give a clue as he stated that he can not confirm nor deny the reports, directing the question to Ajax director Marc Overmars who has been speaking to all suitors.
