Three-time European champions Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes ahead of other Premier League rivals like Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.

This is according to the Radio Rossoneri which claimed that the Red Devils are in pole position to win the £70m race to sign the Portuguese international player.

Bruno Fernandes became a transfer target for the biggest Premier League clubs on the back of a sensational season with Sporting Lisbon.

The 24-year-old broke the record for the most goals scored by a midfielder during a European season after scoring 32 goals for his Portuguese Super League club in all competitions.

He broke the record set by Frank Lampard during the 2009/10 season when the Chelsea legend scored 27 goals in all competitions.

Bruno Fernandes scored 32 goals and also provided 18 assists in all competitions for Sporting Lisbon including 20 goals and 13 assists in 33 league games.

His form led Sporting Lisbon to third position at the end of the just concluded season behind champions Benfica and runners-up FC Porto.

Bruno Fernandes also helped Sporting Lisbon to end the season with the Portuguese Cup title after they defeated FC Porto on penalties.

Both teams had played a four-goal thriller at the end of regulation time and extra time.
