Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has advised Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku to strive to emulate Chelsea hero Didier Drogba by scoring big goals in big games at Old Trafford.

The former Everton star has made a fine start to his career at Manchester, following his £70million move from Goodison Park during the summer transfer window. He has been able to score six goals in his first six matches for the red devils, and is slowly finding his way into the hearts of many Man United fans.

And club legend Rio Ferdinand, who spent over a decade playing at Old Trafford, thinks Lukaku will become a hero at Man United if he can shine at important moments.

Speaking recently to BT Sport, Ferdinand admonished the Belgium international to be looking up to Drogba as a role model and should try imitating some of the things done by the Ivorian star while he was still playing at Chelsea.

“[When] you hear Didier’s goal record, it [might not] blow you away in terms of numbers. But Drogba scored important goals [for Chelsea], big goals in big games.”

And Rio thinks Lukaku can follow the footsteps of scoring in important games – cup finals and league deciders – adding that this will make the Belgian to become loved and become part of the folklore at Old Trafford.
