Though not confirmed yet, Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld might be on his way out of the North London club this summer as the club are not ready to increase his salary.
The Belgian defender will be out of contract by the end of the 2018-19 season and Tottenham are in talks with his agent over a new contract extension but both parties seem not getting along in the deal.
It is believed the player wants an increment to his current weekly wages but the club’s board are not willing to add to it. As a result of that, Tottenham could be forced to cash-in on the player this summer.
Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly not ready to part way with such important player in his team but the Argentine tactician has no other option but to sanction his move out of Wembley stadium in the summer should both parties fail to reach an agreement before the next transfer window.
Manchester United boss José Mourinho and Chelsea manager Antonio Conte have already made enquiries over the possibility of signing the player to their respective club this summer. Alderweireld is set to cost both managers £44m due to Tottenham’s price tag on the Belgian.
As at the time of this report, Liverpool are yet to show any interest in Alderweireld but there is a need for Jurgen Klopp to add him to his team ahead of next season.
Should the Red sign Alderweireld this summer, they will be more stronger at the back as he will be playing alongside Van Dijk who is very strong, mobile and has great aerial strength. His move to Anfield could also disrupt Tottenham’s defensive set up by weakening the team which will, in turn, serves as an advantage to Jurgen Klopp and his men.
