Nicolò Barella

Premier League title challengers Liverpool will have to fend off strong interest from rivals Arsenal in the bid to sign highly rated Italian midfielder Nicolo Barella.

Barella plays his club football for Italian Serie A club Cagliari Calcio at the moment.

Liverpool must be wary of the threat from North London giants Arsenal after the Gunners sent scouts to run the rule over the player at the weekend.

Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb revealed that Arsenal sent scouts to watch Nicolo Barella in action for his Cagliari side for their visit to the San Siro to play AC Milan in what was an Italian top flight clash.

In the end, Barella didn’t have the best of games for Cagliari who were thrashed 3-0 by Champions League hopefuls Milan.

Lucas Paqueta and Kryzystof Piatek were on target for seven-time champions AC Milan against Cagliari.

Nicolo Barella, 22, has become one of the most exciting young players on the Italian football stage and it’s no surprise that he has been attracting the interest of major European clubs though Cagliari have slapped a £45m transfer fee on him in a bid to ward off the attention from other football teams.

Apart from Liverpool and Arsenal, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Juventus are also interested in the player.
