Antonio Conte’s exit from Chelsea when the season ends may not yet be absolutely confirmed, but the major reason why Blues owner Roman Abramovich has delayed sacking the former Italy boss has at least been disclosed.

Superb debut season

The Italian tactician has led Chelsea to a second successive Emirates FA Cup final and can still finish a disappointing campaign with a trophy and end his reign at the West London club with a second honour in as many terms.

The Blues have struggled to defend the English Premier League title and currently sit 5th on the Log, five points adrift 4th-placed Tottenham Hotspurs with only four games left.
Rumour over Antonio Conte’s future started as early as last year September and increased over the season as it became clear that the Blues were not the same force they were last term.

Second season syndrome

Their poor shape early this year led a number of fans to believe his departure was sure, and while it’s not yet confirmed he will leave Stamford Bridge, there seems a general an acceptance he will depart.

Reasons revealed

However, the Daily Mirror suggests two major reasons have prevented the club firing him during the current season.

Firstly, it’s suggested Antonio Conte would be due to receive £10million in compensation should the club terminates his deal before the end of the campaign.

Secondly, the publication also claims the Blues will avoid paying the Italian any money should the tactician walk into another job within 6 months of his departure from Stamford Bridge.

With the manager thought to have held discussions with Paris Saint Germain, the Blues are hopeful he will soon get another top job for himself.
