Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has ordered the club to prepare a last minute offer for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, according to reports.

The Englishman has been tipped to leave Goodison Park this summer after making it clear that he wants to leave the club for a bigger side, with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur both linked with a move for the player.

Everton who are wary of losing the 23-year-old next summer for free, has slapped a £50 million asking price on Barkley which has made Spurs back out of a move while Arsenal are believed to have pulled out due to Mesut Ozil’s decision to remain at the club.

Reports in The Mirror have it that Jose Mourinho has told United to prepare for a transfer deadline move for Ross Barkley with hopes that Everton will lower their asking price as they also look to sign Swansea midfielder Gylfi Siggurdsson.

Manchester United are in the transfer market to sign a central midfielder to consolidate the efforts of Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera next season. The likes of Renato Sanches and Nemanja Matic have also been tipped to make a move to the Old Trafford but Mourinho considers Barkley as a viable alternative if he fails to sign his preferred targets.
